100% grass-fed and finished means that the cattle have been raised on a diet of only grass and other forage, like hay, from weaning until harvest. They have not been given any grain or grain-based feed. This is in contrast to grain-finished cattle, which are typically fed a grain-based diet in the last few months before harvest to increase their size.
"Finished" refers to the period leading up to harvest when farmers focus on maximizing the animal's weight and marbling (the fat within the muscle tissue). In a grass-fed and finished system, this finishing period is also done on grass or forage, rather than on grain.
This method of raising cattle is often chosen for its potential benefits to the environment, animal welfare, and human health. Grass-fed and finished beef is typically leaner and may have higher levels of certain nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids compared to grain-finished beef.
At CT Ranch, we are committed to the health and well-being of our animals, as well as providing our consumers with quality, ethically-raised products. That's why we adopt a strict Non-GMO feeding protocol for all our livestock.
Our feed and supplements are sourced from trusted suppliers who have been certified Non-GMO. This ensures that the grains and other feed ingredients we use have not been genetically modified in any way.
We firmly believe in natural growth and do not administer any artificial hormones to our animals. This means our animals mature at their own pace, leading to healthier animals and better quality food products.
Our animals rarely fall ill due to their robust health and all the fresh air and sunshine. However, in the extremely rare case that a life-or-death situation necessitates antibiotic use, the animal is immediately separated. This ensures that the rest of the herd remains antibiotic-free and that the treated animal does not enter our meat products.
We firmly believe that all animals should be treated with respect and kindness. We adhere to a protocol for humanely raising our animals, which includes the following:
Free Range: Our animals are given unrestricted access to our expansive Texas pastures throughout the year. They are free to graze, roam, forage, and exhibit their natural behaviors in a stress-free environment.
Animal Welfare: We prioritize the health and well-being of our animals. Regular health checks are performed and any necessary medical treatment is provided promptly. We ensure that all animals have access to clean water, fresh air, and sunshine.
No Unnecessary Interventions: We avoid unnecessary interventions. When necessary procedures are carried out, they are performed by trained personnel and under veterinary supervision to minimize stress and pain.
Natural Diet: Our animals thrive on the natural diet they find while foraging and grazing across our expansive landscapes. While we may supplement their diet as needed, we remain steadfast in our commitment to keep things natural.
Gentle Handling: We train our ranch staff in low-stress animal handling techniques. This creates a calm environment for our animals, reducing stress and promoting better health.
Respectful Slaughter: When the time comes, we ensure that our animals are transported and slaughtered in the most humane way possible.
We believe in giving our animals plenty of space to roam and graze in open pastures. This not only results in healthier animals, but also helps us maintain sustainable and ethical farming practices.
We are proud to offer meat from animals that are raised without any vaccines. We will never use mRNA vaccines.

These cattle enjoy a life spent grazing lush pastures, where they can roam freely and thrive in a natural environment. In the final two months of their lives, they are transitioned to a nutritious grain diet, which enhances the flavor and tenderness of the beef. This balanced approach ensures the highest quality meat while maintaining animal welfare.
