Directions

The beauty of chestal honey lies in its simplicity and longevity. With the right storage conditions, it can last for years, making it a reliable staple for your pantry.

This recipe uses raw local honey from CT Ranch, which brings an additional layer of health benefits given its unprocessed nature and the fact it's locally sourced. The use of raw honey for medicinal purposes traces back to age-old wisdom, and this recipe continues that tradition.

Despite its many benefits, chestal honey is surprisingly easy to make. You'll find that whipping up a batch of this yummy medicine is not only beneficial for your health, but also a fun and rewarding process.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of raw local honey from CT Ranch
  • 1/4 cup of dried elderberries
  • 2 tablespoons of dried echinacea
  • 1 tablespoon of dried ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of dried cinnamon chips
  • 1 tablespoon of dried cloves
  • 1 quart-sized glass jar with lid

Instructions:

  1. Sterilize your glass jar by washing it in hot, soapy water and then drying it thoroughly.
  2. Place the dried elderberries, echinacea, ginger, cinnamon chips, and cloves into the jar.
  3. Pour the raw local honey from CT Ranch over the herbs until they are completely submerged.
  4. Stir the mixture with a clean spoon to ensure all the herbs are coated with honey.
  5. Screw the lid on tightly and store the jar in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks. This allows the honey to absorb the medicinal properties of the herbs.
  6. After two weeks, strain the honey into a clean jar, pressing the herbs to extract as much honey as possible.
  7. Discard the spent herbs and seal the jar with the strained honey.
  8. Store your chestal honey in a cool, dark place. It can be used immediately but will become more potent with time.

To use, take a teaspoon of chestal honey at the first sign of a cold or flu. It can also be stirred into warm water or tea for a soothing drink. Enjoy the healing properties of this age-old remedy, and stay healthy during the cold and flu season!

Pro Version: Making chestal honey does not have to be a perfect recipe. Personally I just chop up a few garlic cloves and red onion and put it in a jars of honey. Then let it sit and work its magic together for at least 1 week before I consider it ready to use.
